POLVO DE ESTRELLAS EXHIBITION

Polvo de estrellas, mariposa Monarca is an exhibition that has toured throughout the Americas.

1994 ∙ It is seen for the first time in Querétaro’s Templo de San Agustín. That same year it is exhibited in the Casa del Marqués de Valdehoyos in Cartagena de Indias during a meeting of the G3 trade bloc (Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico).

1996 ∙ The exhibition returns to Mexico to be exhibited at the UNAM’s Centro Cultural Amoxcalli as part of the festival Monarca por una cultura para su conservación.

1997 ∙ The same exhibition, with modifications, travels to Canada under the name Polvo de estrellas… Imágenes de la mariposa Monarca en México, where it is exhibited at Ottawa’s Canadian Museum of Nature.

1998 ∙ The exhibition travels throughout Canada, visiting the Langley Centennial Museum in Port Alberni, British Columbia; the Musée Heritage in St. Albert, Alberta; the Stewart Hall Gallery in Pointe-Claire, Quebec; the Alberny Valley Museum in Saskatoon and the DesBrisay Museum in Benridgewater, Nova Scotia.

1999 ∙ After a long tour, the exhibition returns to Mexico, visiting the Ensenada campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California, the Centro Cultural de Tijuana and the Casa de la Cultura in Tecate in Baja California.

2000 ∙ The exhibition visits Morelia’s Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo and Culiacán’s Colegio de Sinaloa before returning to Baja California to be exhibited at Mexicali’s Museo Universitario. It then travels to Brazil to be exhibited at the Universidad Federal de Pelotas’ Museo Leopoldo Gotuzzo in Iguazú, Río Grande do Sul as part of the XXI International Entomology Congress. That year, the exhibition concludes its journeys at Mexico City’s El Aire Centro de Arte under the title Travesía de la transfiguración polvo de estrellas, mariposa Monarca.

2002 ∙ Universum, the UNAM science museum, Mexico City.

2003 ∙ Centro Regional Arcadio Pagaza in Valle de Bravo, Mexico State as part of the Festival de las almas. She also exhibits at Mexico City’s Museo de la Luz and the UNAM’s Museo de Geología. The year closes with an exhibition in southern Mexico City’s Plaza Cuicuilco, organized with the support of the Federal Environmental Protection Prosecutor (Profepa).

2015 ∙ The book Metamorfosis. Travesía de Carmen Parra and the exhibition Mariposa Monarca eternidad de lo efímero 1982-2014 are presented at the Palacio de Medicina, UNAM, Mexico City.

2015 ∙ October 9. Inauguration of the travelling exhibition Metamorfosis: Mariposa Monarca: Eternidad de lo Efímero, 1982-2015 at its final location, UNAM’s Universum.

2010-2016

2016 ∙ May. The conference En Santa Teresa morando as part of the exhibition Morando en Santa Teresa que nada te turbe , takes place at the Casa Lamm Gallery.
2016 ∙ April. The exhibition Morando en Santa Teresa … que nada te turbe …, opens in the main hall of the Casa Lamm Gallery.
2015 ∙ Octubre. Se inagura la exposición “Un oumo in fuga en el Oratorio de San Lorenzo, en la ciudad italiana de Palermo, en la región autónoma de Sicilia, para rendir homenaje a la obra maestra de Caravaggio, La Natividad, sustraída de este templo en 1969.
2015 ∙ 31 – Octubre. Se exhibe en la Galería Aldama Fine Art en la ciudad de México, la exposición“La flor de loto y el cardo, como homenaje a los grandes impresionista, Paul Cézzane, Vincent van Gogh o Fantin – Latour,   esta muestra Carmen Parra la comparte con el pintor José Antonio Ferrara.
2015 ∙ Se presenta el libro Metamorfosis. Travesía de Carmen Parra y la exposición Mariposa Monarca eternidad de lo efímero 1982-2014 en el Palacio de Medicina, UNAM, México D. F.
2014 ∙ Los Parra-Gironella, un collage familiar se presenta en el Museo de Arte e Historia de León, Guanajuato.
2013 ∙ Los Parra-Gironella, un collage familiar, exposición que reúne el trabajo artístico de Manuel Parra, Alberto Gironella, Carmen Parra y Emiliano Gironella Parra, una familia dedicada al arte; curaduría de Pablo J. Rico. Esta exposición se presentó en la Galería de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo Ángeles Espinosa Yglesias en Puebla, como en el Centro Cultural del Ex Convento de Santo Domingo en Oaxaca. Ese mismo año fue exhibida en la Casa de Cantera del Municipio Real de Catorce, en el marco del Festival del Desierto, en San Luis Potosí.
2012 ∙ Centro de las Artes San Luis Potosí Centenario; San Ángel morada de artistas, Museo Casa del Risco en la Ciudad de México. Se presenta en el marco de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (FIL), la instalación y el libro Los Rostros de la Tertulia, Homenaje a Don Rogelio Álvarez, presentación y poemas de Eduardo Matos Moctezuma.
2011 ∙ República del Aire, El Águila contra la patria en extinción, exposición que se presenta en la Casa del Lago Juan José Arreola, UNAM, Ciudad de México.

2007  Las Luces de los Ángeles, public art installation exhibited at the Centro Cultural del México Contemporáneo, Ex Contento de Santo Domingo, Mexico City. Exhibition Oda a Eiffel, an intervention in the streets of Paris, photographs by Pablo Ortiz Monasterio, virtual collection included in the exhibition La visión de los mexicanos sobre otros países, Museo Nacional de las Culturas, Mexico City.

2004, 2005 and 2006 The exhibition Visión del Arte Virreinal becomes the first large-scale digital public art installation recreating a sacred place. First presented at Mexico City’s Plaza Loreto, it later travels to the Centro Cultural de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru; the Centro de Convenciones Ouro Preto in Minas Gerais, Brazil; the Universidad Católica de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and the Centro Cultural Cabildo in Paraguay; the Museo Nacional de Etnografía y Folklore in La Paz, Bolivia; and the Museo Archivo Histórico in Montevideo, Uruguay.

2004 ∙ The Foreign Affairs Ministry organizes the traveling exhibition Ángeles y Arcángeles, which tours Asia, Europe and Latin America.

2005 ∙ Mexico City’s Casa Lamm hosts the exhibition Sin Cesar.

2004 ∙ The Centro Cultural Vito Alessio Robles in Saltillo, Coahuila presents the exhibition Visión Barroca; Mexico City’s Claustro de Sor Juana hosts Mi corazón deshecho entre tus manos.

2003 ∙ Mexico City’s Colegio de Contadores Públicos de México, A.C. exhibits Un viaje con Carmen Parra, Peregrina del Aire.

2002 ∙ La Torre Galería del Centro National de las Artes presents La Monarca, Mexico City. El Aire Centro de Arte’s Donde se origina el arte project concludes.

2001 ∙ TEC de Monterrey’s Mexico State campus and the Museo de Arte del Ex Convento de San Agustín in Querétaro exhibit En alas de la palabra. That same year, Los símbolos son el lenguaje de los misterios is exhibited in the Casino Español, Mexico City.

2000 ∙ El Museo de la Ciudad in Aguascalientes presents the exhibition Traducción del retorno after having been exhibited in the Centro Cultural Conde Duque in Madrid during the closing of Madrid’s year as Capital Cultural de Iberoamérica.

1999Angels and Archangels is exhibited at Washington D.C.’s Instituto Mexicano de Cultura.

1998Una retrospectiva, Carmen Parra, Galería del Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México.

1997En alas de la palabra is exhibited at the Planetario Alfa in Monterrey, Nuevo León; El Barroco mexicano at Chicago’s Aldo Castillo Gallery and Mariposas Monarca at the Museo Emilia Ortiz in Tepic, Nayarit.

1996 and 1997∙The travelling exhibition El cielo en la tierra. Una visión contemporánea del Barroco en México is exhibited in Mexico City’s Club de Banqueros before visiting Biarritz, France and later Germany and Hungary.

1993Retratos imaginarios, a collection of 80 portraits, is exhibited at Mexico City’s Centro Cultural de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público. Memoria Barroca, La Catedral de México, muestra antológica is exhibited in the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes as part of the Festival del Centro Histórico.

1992∙Vuelo de la Mariposa Monarca, inaugurated by Luis Donaldo Colosio, was exhibited at Washington D.C.’s Instituto Mexicano de Cultura during a trilateral ecological summit between Mexico, Canada and the United States.

1991∙The retrospective Antológica is exhibited at Galería MB in Mexico City’s Plaza Río de Janeiro.

1980-1989

1989El Altar de los Reyes is exhibited in Mexico City’s Castillo de Chapultepec, the Casa de Cultura de Puebla; in Taxco, Guerrero as part of the second edition of “Las jornadas alarconianas,” as well as in Mazatlán, Sinaloa in the Teatro Ángela Peralta.

1988Altar de los Reyes is exhibited at the Catedral Metropolitana and subsequently at the Centro Cultural de la Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público, Mexico City.

1988Rosas, dedicated to Fernando Gamboa, is exhibited in Mexico City’s Galería Lourdes Chumacero.

1987∙The installation Mariposa Monarca, eternidad de lo efímero is exhibited at Mexico City’s Museo de Arte Moderno.

1986Hojas transfiguradas, an exhibition inspired by the tobacco production process, is held at the Centro Cultural Oaxaca, the Bodegas de Tabamex in Tepic, Nayarit and in Mexico City’s Palacio de Minería.

1985∙Carmen Parra participates in the founding of the newspaper La Jornada.

1984La Cathédrale de Mexico, Temps Captif, is exhibited at the Orangerie of the Hôtel de Sully, Paris. La luz no muere sola, which was the first bullfighting-themed exhibition done by a woman in Mexico is shown in Mexico City’s Galería Lourdes Chumacero.

1983El coro de la Catedral de México is exhibited in the building adjoining Mexico City’s Catedral Metropolitana.

1982Mariposa Monarca, 40 000 Años Papalotl, the first ecological exhibition and happening, is hosted at Mexico City’s Galería Sloane Racotta. Y la luz se hizo ángel is presented in Mexico City’s Galería Lourdes Chumacero.

1980∙Stage design for Ofelia Medina’s spectacle Mi corazón deshecho entre tus manos in the Tenampa, Plaza Garibaldi, in Mexico City, directed by Héctor Azar and with music by Rafael Elizondo. Presentation of her book La catedral de México, Tiempo Cautivo, which includes texts by Gonzalo Celorio, in Galería Arvil.

1978Ajolotes, with photos by Paulina Lavista, is exhibited in Mexico City’s Foro de Arte Contemporáneo. Fernando Gamboa organizes an exhibition of her art entitled Las ventanas in Mexico City’s Museo de Arte Moderno.

1976∙Stage design and accompanying exhibition for La muerte de Adelita, a comic micro-opera in palindromes written by Miguel González Avelar and directed by Héctor Azar, performed at Canada’s Festival de Teatro, the Festival Cervantino and at the Centro de Arte Dramático (cadac); Espejos, Galería Danilo Ongay, Mexico City.

Tour Eiffel, Nourriture principale pour poissons d’ornement is exhibited in the Forum Sarcelles, Paris, France.
